Quick 10

US Shift Quick 10 Clutch-to-Clutch Transmission Control System
with Remote OLED Graphical Display

Currently Supporting 2017+ Ford 10R80 Transmissions with M-Shift.
Soon to be available for the GM 10L90

After seven years, the jointly-developed Ford 10R80 and GM 10L90 transmissions are now battle proven in the field and on the drag strip. In stock form, these transmissions are easily capable of handling over 600 horsepower, while aftermarket upgrades are readily available to support well over 1000 horsepower.

Our new Quick 10 controller supports the Ford 10R80 and GM 10L90 transmissions. This product represents the pinnacle of our transmission controller development evolution, and its development began prior to the release of our Gen2 series of controllers in 2019. We have upgraded our entire suite of clutch-to-clutch transmission control tools to enable the best performance and shift quality possible with our new seventh-generation firmware/software platform. We will soon move Quick 6 onto this enhanced platform, enabling further improvements to that product, as well. The development process has been extensive since with ten gears, many downshift combinations are available, and with so many shifts occurring as you drive, poor shift quality is far more irritating than it would be in a four or six speed transmission. As a result, during this development process of several years, we have completely redesigned the controller hardware and have upgraded much of the controller firmware, as well as the tuning software. We will soon add a microSD card socket to Quick 10 to enable continuous data logging and other features. All Quick 10 controllers will be equipped with our attractive and functional remote display unit for the best user experience with superior vehicle integration.

Some of the benefits we have enabled in Quick 10 are improved and more extensive shift learning capability for quick, smooth, and consistent upshifts, self-tuning downshifts with improved shift quality, and new predictive algorithms to optimize downshifts for the quickest and most responsive power-on downshifts possible. With so many speeds available, it is imperative to downshift to the desired gear as quickly as possible with minimal steps. We have optimized the downshift process to leverage the capabilities of these transmissions to their full potential. We have also worked to optimize smoothness of these downshifts for the best experience possible.

Advantages of the 10R80 and 10L90 Transmissions

One question that often comes up regarding 10-speed transmissions is whether ten gears are actually useful or merely a marketing tactic. The gear ratios are 4.696, 2.985, 2.156, 1.779, 1.526, 1.278, 1.0, 0.854, 0.689, and 0.636:1. This provides a wide ratio spread with an extremely low first gear and a very tall overdrive gear, allowing blistering 60-foot performance with unprecedented economy. There are also numerous benefits for off-roading with extreme crawl ratio capabilities. For applications where the 4.696 first gear ratio is too low, it is possible to start in second gear when in automatic mode. In these cases, the first gear can be reserved as a “granny gear” if desired.

All of the gear ratios are close together, and become even closer in the higher gears where it is most helpful. For instance, in an application where 6000 RPM WOT shift points are utilized, the engine RPM after the 1-2 shift (post-shift RPM) is about 4410 RPM*. 2-3 post-shift RPM is about 4930 RPM*. All other shifts will yield a post-shift engine speed of at least 5300 RPM. Older transmissions, by comparison, provide post-shift speeds ranging from 3700 RPM to 4000 RPM for the 1-2 shift and up to 4500 RPM for the 2-3 shift. In real-world terms, this means that the engine can operate within a 500-1000 RPM range for most gears, as opposed to a 2000+ RPM operating range for earlier transmissions. Operating within such a tight RPM range at WOT means that the engine is always near peak torque or peak power, providing nearly ideal utilization of its potential. This is especially useful for naturally aspirated engines with high-duration camshafts, smaller displacement engines in larger vehicles, etc., and allows for far better performance than normally attainable with such combinations. Any engine combination will benefit from these advantages, maximizing its performance in a given setting.

*Utilizing our “Sync Release” TCC mode and a stock torque converter. Actual results will vary depending upon engine torque and the torque converter utilized. Looser converters will increase post-shift RPM.

Summary of 10-Speed Transmission Benefits:

  • Wide Ratio Spread: Low 4.696:1 first gear and 3 generous overdrive ratios of 0.854, 0.689, and 0.636:1 for quiet and economical cruising.

  • Narrow Ratio Spacing: Usually mutually exclusive with wide ratio spread, the ratio steps are closer together than previous transmissions, thanks to the larger number of ratios.

  • Enhanced Downshift Capabilities: All downshifts from seventh gear and below can be completed in a single step to any gear below seventh gear.

  • Quick and Smooth Shifts: Since the gear ratios are so close, engine RPM drop during each shift is minimal, enabling shifts to complete quickly AND smoothly.

  • Excellent Torque Capacity: Stock transmissions can handle at least 600HP, with modified units supporting four-digit power levels.

  • Excellent Aftermarket Support: Raybestos and other vendors provide upgraded clutches and other components for a growing support base.

  • Adaptability to Different Engines: Adapters for various engines, old and new, are available, with others in development.

  • Large OEM Installed Base: Used in a variety of GM and Ford vehicles, the OEM design is constantly being improved and used units are readily available.

  • Similar Size to Six-Speed Transmissions: Dimensions are only slightly larger than the Ford 6R80 and GM 6L80E.

Featuring REVolution Architecture

The Quick 10 is a powerful, fully-featured, and easy-to-use transmission controller based on REVolution architecture. It enables the use of an electronic 10R80 transmission on a wide variety of vehicles that lack the OEM capability, such as classic cars, trucks, or motorhomes. It can also be used to enhance a modern vehicle's performance by taking over control from the OEM computer, allowing the user to directly adjust shift points, firmness, torque converter engagement, and much more.

Remote Display

Remote Display

The Quick 10 Remote Display allows monitoring and control of your system from a convenient location without the need to mount the controller in a conspicuous location. The Remote Display's OLED display is 33% larger than the internal display on our other products. Combined with the new enlarged home screen mode, featuring a large numerical gear indicator, this makes the Remote Display easier to see at a glance, especially when paddle shifting. Its sleek, modern design allows it to integrate into any vehicle build, from high-end street rods, to off-roaders, to drag cars, and RVs.

Despite its large screen and simple-to-use controls, the Remote Display is relatively small, coming in at 1.9 inches wide, 2.4 inches tall, and 0.4 inches thick (48mm x 60mm x 9mm). Weighing only 3ozs (84g), mounting it wherever you need will be a simple task. With its precision CNC-machined anodized aluminum housing and knob (available in multiple colors upon request), the Remote Display will blend in nicely with high-end, classic interiors, as well as modern ones. As examples, it could be mounted on the dash, console, or concealed in a glove compartment, armrest, or ash tray. The attached cable and connector (2.5mm jack) is thin and provides enough length to route through dash assemblies and interior panels. The design of the Remote Display's rear panel allows the cable to be routed straight down or turned at an angle for total concealment.

The Remote Display includes two pushbuttons and multi-colored indicator LEDs that serve multiple functions. By default, the left button controls either auto/manual or OD on/off (depending on transmission) while the right button is table select, allowing you to cycle through up to four tables on-the-fly. The LED indicators can be customized for each active mode or table, or turned off if desired. The display's brightness can be set within the menu while an integrated ambient light sensor auto-dims the display for more comfortable night viewing. The auto-dimming strength can also be customized in the menu.

Our goal in the design of the Remote Display was to bring the transmission out from the background and make it an integral part of the driving experience, assisting you with greater information and control, while at the same time, not vying for undue attention. With our Quick controller features at your fingertips, the transmission can now better adapt to what you want from it, rather than you adapting to its behavior, allowing for a more complete and enjoyable driving experience.

The home screen gives you real-time info on things like PRNDL position, currently-commanded gear, speed, configuration table in use, and any fault codes that may appear. To access the main menu, simply turn the knob and it will immediately appear. All of the menus and functions have been carefully crafted to be easily understood and adjusted. Most of the adjustments that can be made using a computer with our Shiftware software can also be done from the built-in user interface. Examples include adjusting shift timing, shift firmness, torque converter clutch engagement, switching calibration tables, and adjusting the speed sensor settings, just to name a few.

Diagnostics

Quick 10 features comprehensive diagnostic tools. Each individual solenoid output is precisely monitored and error messages are very specific, taking you directly to the problem. And advanced diagnostics data can be accessed directly through the UI's menu instead of having to connect the controller to a PC. These features simplify installation and troubleshooting.

Design

Quick 10 features power-efficient circuitry that runs cooler thanks to advanced thermal management, improving reliability. Additional protection circuitry prevents controller damage which could be caused by accidental miss-wiring. We've also added a robust, high-temperature-rated EEPROM IC with error correction for storing critical data - such as tunes, settings, and learned data - which has been rated to maintain data integrity for at least 200 years. Firmware is stored in enhanced flash memory with error correction code technology. And, as with our past controllers, constant power is not needed to maintain saved data, meaning power loss doesn't erase your settings and your battery won't be drained during long periods of storage.

Quick 10 further builds on the advanced REVolution firmware architecture of Quick 4 and Quick 6 to deliver the most advanced stand-alone clutch-to-clutch transmission controller in the industry. It utilizes a unique self-tuning process (protected by US patent #10,100,922 & #10,767,759) that greatly simplifies setup and tuning, while maximizing adaptability to many different applications, vehicles, and power levels. The self-tuning capability and refined adjustment process enables an installation, setup, and tuning experience that is comparable to, or even easier than, a four speed transmission such as a 4L80E or 4R70W.

The Quick 10 has unparalleled shift quality with the ability to perform smooth light-throttle shifts and quick full-throttle shifts. Quick 10 provides shift quality customization capabilities that surpass what has previously been possible in the industry. If the low first gear utilized in most 6-10 speed transmissions is not suitable for your application, it is possible to start in second gear, which will effectively create a close ratio 9 speed transmission.

The shift algorithms (protected by US patent #10,100,922) are intrinsically safe, offering integrated protection against tie-up due to tuning errors or other issues. Extensive self-monitoring and diagnostic capabilities provide an additional margin of safety and will invoke fail-safe mode if a potentially unsafe condition is detected. Exclusive Power-On Solenoid Check (POSC) provides a full test of all solenoids at power-ups as an enhancement to self-monitoring and as a valuable aid to diagnostic troubleshooting.

Along with all of the capabilities of the Quick 6, it also has a long list of features carried over from the Quick 4, such as...

  • Advanced algorithms provide the highest level of shift control and synchronization, allowing you to maximize the performance of your combination.

  • The most advanced torque converter clutch control available, with several actions available during shifts.
